Crochet Mood Blanket 2014

31 January 2014 by Naomi 4 Comments

It is the last day of January!!!

I can’t lie, I’m not sorry to see the end of this month. We have definitely had better starts to new years gone by.

That is not to say we haven’t had any lovely, happy days over the last month, just that the overall feeling and mood has not been especially positive for us as a whole family.

Which is as good a link as any to my crochet mood blanket! Ha!

CMB 2014

Despite it taking me the whole month to share it properly here, I have been hooking away at my blanket since the 1st and I am really loving the project 🙂

Truthfully I wasn’t sure if I would actually keep it up, and although I have fallen a couple of days behind a few times I have so far always caught back up! So here it is so far 30 days in – todays will be hooked up tonight!

CMB 2014 snakey

I have assigned certain moods to 16 different shades of Stylecraft Special DK (the lucy pack, of course!) and each evening I choose the relevant colour and hook up a square.

For my blocks I am using the Sunburst Granny Square pattern by Priscilla’s Crochet and joining with the join-as-you-go method.

CMB mantel

My blocks are quite large so at the moment it is 15 squares wide and will be an unknown number of rows long. I still haven’t worked out if I will split it into two blankets, or whether to do an exceptionally large spread for our bed… Decisions, decisions!

CMB end So far I have been edging and joining in ‘Sherbet’, a pale blue colour and while I do like it….. I still don’t love it and can’t quite decide what to do about it.

I have been toying with the idea of changing the edging colour for each month… Or maybe just every two rows for an even stripe effect… Or perhaps I’ll just stick with it….  What do you think??

Floppy Flower Slippers

24 January 2014 by Naomi 3 Comments

A few days back I sat down and managed to start and finish a whole project in a few hours. This never happens!

I was in need of a new pair of slippers for around the house (I simply can’t have bare feet on our freezing floors!) so I treated myself to some nice new ‘me’ yarn with some christmas gift money I had.

floppy flower slippers

It is Drops Eskimo in blue/purple mix. I think it is a yummy yarn and I’m dying to felt with it!

The pattern is one of Garnstudios many freebies with a couple of very minor alterations. You can find the pattern I used here. It is wonderfully simple and super quick to whip up a pair.

They are also really comfortable, much more so than my previous granny square slippers 🙂 Winning all round!

I suppose the only slight downfall is that they can be a bit slip-slidey on our hardwood floors, if I’m not being careful and dashing about.

Hmmm… I think I’ll put up with it!!

wrist warmers & fingerless gloves

20 January 2014 by Naomi 4 Comments

It has been a while since I last shared any of my crochet projects with you and as I am at long last starting to feel like myself again, I thought it was about time! (Thank you for the kind comments on my last post, they were very appreciated.)

I am participating in the Crochet Mood Blanket 2014 and I will get round to writing up a post about my blanket soon but for now I am focusing on much more wearable hooky endeavours.

I actually made myself this pair of wrist warmers way back in October(ish?) but have never quite got around to mentioning them.

I love them very, very much. They are made with scraps of merino yarn that was left over from this blanket. I made the pattern up as I went along using a seed stitch (or moss stitch it might be known else where?) and an improvised shell edging.

wristwarmersThey are super soft, super warm and super colourful. Perfect.

After I made these my dear hubby requested his own, much more manly, pair. So with some chunkier wool yarn (Drops Alaska) in more masculine colours I set to it.

Once again I made it up as I went along, which became interesting when he decided he’d like some ‘fingerless’ fingers, if you catch my drift! This actually became even more ‘interesting’ when I ran out of the brown colour after finishing just one glove and had to wait some weeks before ordering more. Trying to reverse engineer my own made up pattern on those silly finger holes was somewhat headache inducing.

However, it was worth the effort as I love how they turned out and happily so does Vince!

I love making wearable crochet items, I am on a bit of a kick at the moment. Yesterday I actually whipped up some new house slippers for myself… which I LOVE. I will swing by hopefully tomorrow to show them off. If I can get some nice photos of them. Taking photos of your own feet in a flattering light is not easy!

Have you hooked up anything wearable lately? I’d love for you to share with us 🙂
