Winter Woolies: Hats!

17 November 2015 by Naomi 2 Comments

In the last few years I’ve developed quite a ‘thing’ for crocheting hats at this time of year. I think it is because they are so quick to whip up, make me feel cosy and my littles look adorable in them!

So far this year I have made Emma and Matthew one hat each, however my little guy is growing so fast he will need another one by the end of this week!

Emma's WildFlower Hat

These days Emma has a few more ideas about what she wears, she asked for her hat to be purple and pink and not to have a pom pom but a flower instead. I feel that I carried out my brief pretty well and she certainly seems happy with it! But she is not always a willing model so these are phone snaps when she wasn’t expecting it! Ha!

Pink WildFlower Hat

A few technical notes for those who get curious about these things…
Yarn: Stylecraft Special Chunky Shades: Emperor & Raspberry
Hat Pattern: Made up as I went (Basic treble stitch beanie with a front-post/back-post ribbing)
Flower Pattern: The Never Ending Wildflower by Little Monkeys Crochet

Happily, Matthew is a little more laid back about me dressing him up in a wooly hat while still indoors to take photographs!

Matthews Hat

In truth with no requests to fulfill this hat was really a case of using whatever ‘boyish colours’ I had on hand, a bit of a stash buster hat. Actually until he was wearing it I wasn’t totally sure I liked my own colour choices.

A few more technical notes for those who get curious about these things…
Yarn: Stylecraft Special Chunky Shades: Dark Brown, Midnight, Teal & Cream
Hat Pattern: Made up as I went (Basic treble stitch beanie with a crab stitch edging and free hand pompom)

If you would like to see some of the other hats I have made, feel free to check out some of these previous posts:

Goodbye Autumn…

1 December 2014 by Naomi Leave a Comment

So today is apparently the official first day of winter… and the start of Christmas judging by the number of fully decorated trees and houses in my social media feeds!

I am almost ready to welcome the Christmas season into our home and by the coming weekend I am sure we will be fully decked too. But for now I am still enjoying my cosy autumn colours, so here are some of my favourite photos I had meant to share a few weeks ago…

::: A new scripture print went up for autumn too – probably my favourite verse, Jeremiah 29v11.

::: I even managed a little crochet, a chunky green cowl for myself in King Cole Gypsy.

::: Also a little slouchy pompom hat for Emma, made using a double strand of Stylecraft Special DK. <3

Yay for happy, cosy, autumn days!

Ok, I think I’m about ready to embrace Christmas now! I’m off to crochet some little things for a christmas fair at our church this weekend 🙂 I’ll try and share them later this week!

Have a wonderful first week of advent!

This week…

8 November 2014 by Naomi 3 Comments

… has been sooo much better! I mean really I can hardly begin to say how much better this week has been… for all of us I hope!

So here some highlights of our first week in November 🙂 (Week 15 of pregnancy if you’re counting 😉 )

(I’m afraid once again these are all phone camera snaps… it’s just easier at the moment!)

We took an early evening trip out at the beginning of the week to Bedgebury Pinetum, it was so peaceful and beautiful. It was also so we could take a stroll through the deep, dark wood…

wpid-imag0613.jpg

wpid-imag0610.jpg…and look what we found! Emma was so excited… convincing her to say goodbye was an interesting manoeuvre! (If you have no idea who the above character is, you must check out this book!)

We explored local places that we had still never been too. This is our local museum & art gallery, it is small but an interesting visit full of all sorts of things and even Emma loved it. Admittedly this was largely helped by the little dinosaur exhibit as she is having a bit of a dino phase?!

We have also had shopping trips out to Ashford, got ourselves organised financially ready for December, enjoyed the restart of my bible study group after the half term, finally started reading a new book, and despite starting yesterday with an absolute horror of a headache it ended with our yarn lovers group meeting at our house which was always guaranteed to perk me up!!!

Today has been a quieter day but we have succeeded in getting out of the house as that has been the theme of the week – not being house-bound! Emma and I decided to take a walk and braved the elements to head to the park… Honestly our local play park should be entered for some sort of award for being the UK’s most windswept, I am sure it would win.

wpid-img-20141108-wa0000.jpegYou wouldn’t believe how hard those gulls were trying to fly off and getting absolutely nowhere. Also that little 2 year old up there is super cute (most of the time!) and will be 3 in less than six weeks. How can that possibly be right?!

Dear readers, I hope you have been able to find the positives in your week too! Enjoy the rest of your weekend 🙂
