The ‘Mr Wade’ Winter Hat
It’s true. Your eyes do not deceive you. I have written a post about a crochet make!
It has been some time since I last shared my crochet with you here, but rest assured my hook has still been working away 🙂 In the last month or so I have made quite a few hats and cowls and cold weather motivated items… but have failed to get my camera out. Oops.
There are two or three things in particular that I really want to blog about and will get some photos with their owners soon. Cute and cosy, little girl inspired, woolly things! (Although if you follow me on Instagram you may have seen a couple already 😉 I’m @ourlovelylittlelife)
Last week, after the chaos of the season had subsided, I set to on this little project. My dear hubby currently has to walk home from work, this is a 40 minute walk at around 10pm. In January this is just slightly cold and when he comes home his poor ears are frozen. I wanted to make him a hat to keep him warmer at night!
I wasn’t sure if Vince would fancy a crochet hat really, but if it was functional, practical and as manly as I could manage I thought why not… and he was quite keen when I put it forward!
So using the lovely soft and affordable Stylecraft Special Chunky acrylic yarn and a 6mm hook I whipped this up – in what was really just a few hours… but in my life that is a few evenings!
It is very simple rounds of half treble crochets (or hdc in the US!) in two different colours. I finished with a ribbed edge created using alternating front-post and back-post trebles. As for sizing, I made it to fit Vince but I use this great post and size table all the time!
Of course, I had to name it the Mr Wade Winter Hat because I am super inventive in that way 😉 As you can see Mr Wade himself was thrilled to have me taking photos of him in the rain earlier today! The things you do for your wife huh?!
(This would be the comment that it is probably raining too hard now!)
I believe we are both very pleased with how it turned out and now when he gets in from work his ears aren’t turning to ice! Win!
