Happy Homemaker Monday – 18/7/16

17 July 2016 by Naomi 7 Comments

Hello! How was your weekend?

I’ve decided to take part in the happy homemaker Monday link up again. I used to join in regularly but that was almost 2 years ago now! Vince has just finished two weeks off work, my house is a shambles, my housework routine and organisation is lacking, and my blogging is sporadic. So I thought this might just be a great way to kickstart a few things!

Our weekend was a mixed bag, highlights including an excellent birthday tea party for a friends 30th (if you have instagram check out #greatbeckiebakeoff), lowlights being my poor teething, snotty, unhappy baby and his over tired big sister struggling to keep it together.

Well, onwards with HHM!

Happy Homemaker Monday

The weather:::

Today is beautiful! It feels like summer has finally arrived! The sunshine always motivates me to get on with chores too.😊

On my reading pile:::

My reading pile is woefully non-existent right now. I am terrible at finding the time for reading these days even though I do love to read. I’m hoping to make a better point of reading in the summer holidays.

On my tv:::

Gilmore Girls boxset. Thankyou Netflix! It’s been years since I watched this show and I do love it, I’ve even got the Mr hooked! ๐Ÿ™‚

On the menu this week:::

We are currently on day 17 of our first Whole 30! It’s been an interesting and sometimes torturous experience so far!

This weeks dinners:

Monday – Prawn Cocktail and salad
Tuesday – Baked Potato, Tuna Salad
Wednesday – Pulled Pork Carnitas
Thursday – Leftovers!
Friday – Chicken Cacciatore
Saturday – Salmon Cakes & Greens

On my to do list:::

Weekly food shop
Hoovering
Organise messy play for toddler group
Organise kids clothes
Never-ending mountain of laundry!!!

What I am sewing, crocheting, or creating:::

I am currently crocheting a smaller version of my Springtime Bolero for a little person and I am crocheting a cardigan for myself but I’m making it up as I go and it is going slowly! I also have a little teacher present in the works.

Looking around the house:::

It is just after lunch, Matthew is napping, Emma is home from nursery and currently playing pirates with daddy before he goes to work shortly. The front room is rough around the edges, the kitchen is clean except for lunch plates and the rest of the house needs dealing with.

From the camera:::

On my prayer list:::

Health, strength and wisdom for various friends and family without broadcasting details.
For our upcoming summer holidays, getting ready for Emma to start school.
That I would spend more time reading the bible each day.

Something that inspires or brings a smile:::

cinema selfie!

We took Emma to the cinema for the first time last week! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Five Fact Friday

26 June 2015 by Naomi Leave a Comment

1. Jabs are horrid things. I’m not particularly great with needles and my little Matthew had his 8 week immunisations this morning. I know that he has certainly already forgotten it but they are such heartbreaking cries that stick with me for ages.

baby book and toes

2. Sea Shells. Emma has quite a collection of shells from the beach that she likes to play with. We stack them, sort them, paint them and make pictures but I feel there must be more we can do. Does anyone have any good ideas for toddler friendly shell crafts/games?

sleepy morning family

3. Vegetables. Emma is an incredibly fussy eater and I worry about the absolute lack of fruit and vegetables in her diet. This week has been better though, she has eaten carrot, red pepper and sweet potato. I am finally convincing her to try things again… now if we could just add some greens!

4. Crochet. I am playing around with some bits here and there when I find a few free minutes. I am also working on a new pattern but my goodness it is slow progress. It requires more concentration than my sleep deprived brain can cope with right now. Simple small projects for fun are my go to for a while!

5. Quiet time. I always struggle to set aside time in the mornings for my bible study. I tend to leave it for the evenings by which point I am too tired to really concentrate – especially these days! However as I am now usually up between 5.30-6.30am to feed Matthew I am trying to use that as an alarm call. I have been using the She Reads Truth app this week from the comfort of my bed but next week I am going to try taking the Hello Mornings Challenge to get me up and at it!

Have you ever joined Hello Mornings? Or can you recommend something similar that has helped you? I would love to hear!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

February Fun!

15 February 2015 by Naomi 1 Comment

february-mantel

Historically, we have never really celebrated Valentine’s day in our house. I decorate because I really need no excuse to crochet cute hearts and make our mantel prettier. That said, this year we have celebrated a little more – trying make the most of any romantic occasion before the imminent arrival of our baby boy! (10 weeks to go!!!)

crochet-hearts-on-sticksย This years crochet contribution to my February mantel has been the jar of little hearts on sticks, complete with jar cosy. I saw some similar hearts on pinterest (of course!) and loved them. I found a little heart pattern, via ravelry I expect but to my shame I can not now remember, popped them on bamboo skewers and created my own version. The jar cosy I made up as I went along and it turned out rather well I thought ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh and do you like my sweet little card from the lovely hubby?! <3

We were incredibly grateful yesterday to let my mum look after Emma for the afternoon. Emma had the best time, playing, baking cookies, feeding ducks, visiting other family members and generally being spoiled rotten I’m sure. While this was happening Vince and I got to have a whole afternoon date!

We chose to do something we both love… which is doing not a great deal at all! We chose a little town neither of us really know and had a good wander around, exploring and trying different cafe’s and coffee shops. More importantly we got to talk without being interrupted or distracted or too tired to concentrate, we got to walk arm in arm instead of wrangling a toddler and generally we got to enjoy just being husband and wife. Child free time doesn’t happen all that often for us, so when it does it is treasured.

As a bonus, the town market had a beautiful fresh flower stall full of tulips, we had the tastiest hot chocolate I have had in years, possibly ever (now I want another!), and had tea and cake from pretty china. The random event of the day was looking up from the above cup of tea and seeing Bob Geldof sitting at the table opposite, ha!

This afternoon this gorgeous girl and I spent time doing valentine’s inspired arts and crafts. For a little girl who spends 50%ย of her time thinking about dinosaurs and cars she really let her girly side fly today ๐Ÿ™‚ Her precision was pretty impressive today and I love watching her different skills developing. Watching her grow brings so much joy to my life <3

Oh, and just look at that smile. I know I’m her totally biased mum but we have such a beautiful little girl.

I hope you have all had a happy weekend lovely readers. <3
