Jump for July!

4 July 2015 by Naomi Leave a Comment

It’s July. It’s summer. I mean it is actually hot in the UK!

jump for july

I’m not sure how this month crept up on me but I’m glad it is here, I think it is going to be a good one. We are not going away for a holiday owing to our new addition and a fairly tight budget but we have other things lined up to look forward to.

First and foremost being able to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air is top of my list. Mainly because we can finally use our garden again (the lovely husband has retaken control from the weeds and the cats!). Despite being a small space with no grass, it is serving us wonderfully so far this year. All the photos in this post are from the garden 😉

bees & lavender

In the next week my wonderful nan turns 80! Naturally this means a big family get together which I am so looking forward to. I don’t often get to see my cousins, aunts & uncles as we live away from our family and of course everyone has their own families and busy lives now but it is always a fab day when we all come together. This time it is such a special occasion that even my uncle who lives in Oz has made the trip!

lavender, fence & sky

Vince has some holiday time coming up so we have some little family day trips planned – the beach, the zoo, etc.. We also have our niece turning 2 at the end of that week so it will be lovely to see Vince’s side of the family as well. The following week my sister in law will be staying with us which is always fun – and a great help! 😉

lavender, fuschia & rose

That will most likely see us through till August although I’m sure we will have plenty of other fun things pop up along the way (like the church summer barbecue tomorrow!). I am quite ready for a fun month before I have to start planning and getting ready for the autumn and thinking about December!

I hope you are all jumping for July too! How will you be spending this summer? I’d love to hear!

February Fun!

15 February 2015 by Naomi 1 Comment

february-mantel

Historically, we have never really celebrated Valentine’s day in our house. I decorate because I really need no excuse to crochet cute hearts and make our mantel prettier. That said, this year we have celebrated a little more – trying make the most of any romantic occasion before the imminent arrival of our baby boy! (10 weeks to go!!!)

crochet-hearts-on-sticks This years crochet contribution to my February mantel has been the jar of little hearts on sticks, complete with jar cosy. I saw some similar hearts on pinterest (of course!) and loved them. I found a little heart pattern, via ravelry I expect but to my shame I can not now remember, popped them on bamboo skewers and created my own version. The jar cosy I made up as I went along and it turned out rather well I thought 🙂

Oh and do you like my sweet little card from the lovely hubby?! <3

We were incredibly grateful yesterday to let my mum look after Emma for the afternoon. Emma had the best time, playing, baking cookies, feeding ducks, visiting other family members and generally being spoiled rotten I’m sure. While this was happening Vince and I got to have a whole afternoon date!

We chose to do something we both love… which is doing not a great deal at all! We chose a little town neither of us really know and had a good wander around, exploring and trying different cafe’s and coffee shops. More importantly we got to talk without being interrupted or distracted or too tired to concentrate, we got to walk arm in arm instead of wrangling a toddler and generally we got to enjoy just being husband and wife. Child free time doesn’t happen all that often for us, so when it does it is treasured.

As a bonus, the town market had a beautiful fresh flower stall full of tulips, we had the tastiest hot chocolate I have had in years, possibly ever (now I want another!), and had tea and cake from pretty china. The random event of the day was looking up from the above cup of tea and seeing Bob Geldof sitting at the table opposite, ha!

This afternoon this gorgeous girl and I spent time doing valentine’s inspired arts and crafts. For a little girl who spends 50% of her time thinking about dinosaurs and cars she really let her girly side fly today 🙂 Her precision was pretty impressive today and I love watching her different skills developing. Watching her grow brings so much joy to my life <3

Oh, and just look at that smile. I know I’m her totally biased mum but we have such a beautiful little girl.

I hope you have all had a happy weekend lovely readers. <3

happy homemaker monday – 18/08/2014

18 August 2014 by Naomi 2 Comments

Happy Monday!

Good evening lovelies! I am a bit late getting this up today, but it’s an improvement on last week when I missed it altogether! I hope you have all had a lovely weekend and are looking forward to the week ahead 🙂

I join in with Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom for this, so do go and say hi!

Breakfast time… what is on the plate this morning:::

It was a large cup of tea with a simple bowl of cereal this morning.

On today’s to-do list:::

Laundry!!
Clean the kitchen counters & floor
Make a menu plan to clear out the freezer – it is in serious need of defrosting!
Continue making plans for Emma’s schooling.
Have fun playing with my little munchkin!!
Crochet

Currently reading:::

My Bible and Is It Just Me? by Miranda Hart (her autobiography I’ve borrowed from a friend, such fun!)

On the tv today:::

Emma watched Happy Feet while I was sorting out dinner, I’m tossing up watching the new episode of New Tricks tonight or Horizon: Should I Eat Meat? – I’ll prob go for the latter and catch up on New Tricks with the hubby later.

The weather outside is:::

Cooler!!! It has been sunny mostly with a break for rain around 4ish…. of course now its more or less dark (yay shorter days = autumn) and it is always windy here.

On the menu this week:::

Haven’t got to this yet today… will hopefully get to it before bedtime?!

If I have a few minutes to myself,  I will:::

Crochet! I have a tin cover on the hook currently, but also need to work on sandals, christmas things, a cushion cover, giraffes and a tea cosy!

In the garden:::

A poor, neglected, sorry sight, completely overrun by the neighbours cats who insist on using it as a giant litterbox :'( I swear if we are still living here come next spring the garden will be my top priority.

Favourite photo from the camera:::

Praying for:::

Continuing to pray for Vince’s work situation at the moment – that we would hear something soon, wisdom for Emma’s future schooling, and for continued peace in our current season of unknowns. For many friends and family for many different reasons. For the fallen world we live in.

Bible verse, Devotional that is resonating with me at the moment:::

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.
And we
boast in the hope of the glory of God.
Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. Romans 5:1-4 NIV
