The Sibling Project 2016 – January

15 January 2016 by Naomi 1 Comment

E & M | The Sibling Project 2016

I have spent some time in the last fortnight surfing around blogs I love searching for some blogging inspiration. I found two year long projects that fit in perfectly with what I already want to keep record of here that will also, hopefully, help me to be more consistent in posting and use my DSLR camera a bit more than I currently do. Once a month I will be posting pictures and updates on my two lovely littles and their journey as brother and sister. Though for this month these are all still phone snaps!

This month the relationship between these two munchkins has started to change as Matthew is now crawling! This has meant if Emma is too smothering he can get himself out of the way for the most part, equally if Emma is playing with her toys and he wants to be in on the action he scoots over and grabs hold of things he probably shouldn’t. So far Emma has been very accommodating of him. She has always been very quick to share her things with Matthew, usually it is a case of us having to reign her in a bit.

Emma is a true mother hen at home. The second Matthew drops anything or starts to cry she is right there to pick it up or offer a toy and if she cant help she shouts for us until she is satisfied he is happy again. She loves being with Matthew and is constantly asking for him to sit on her lap for a cuddle, however now he is bigger and more mobile he is not so interested as he was. She doesn’t really understand this and tries to bear hug or lift him which doesn’t usually go down so well.

Generally speaking they are getting along wonderfully and Matthew is never more smiley and giggly than when Emma is playing with him or jumping around the room like a loony for comic effect. It so far seems they have pretty similar personalities and I can’t wait to see how Matthew’s develops and this relationship blooms. I am so proud of how well Emma adjusted to not being our only child and of what a caring and lovely big sister she is growing into.

Gosh, I love these two!

The Ordinary Moments 2016 #1

11 January 2016 by Naomi 4 Comments

This last week has been a week of two halves for me. We were still in the last throes of our holiday mindset while our normal routine was starting to creep back in.

Vince had gone back to work over the New Year period but he had Tuesday at home which happened to be the last day before nursery started for Emma. I am determined, in our own way, to squeeze as many little adventures in as we possibly can over the next 8 months before Emma starts school. So despite the gloom and drizzle, we grabbed the most suitable clothing we could find (realised a shopping trip is in order!) and headed out to the beach in nearby Bexhill.

It was our first time visiting this particular little stretch of local coastline. It is lovely, so pretty and peaceful, although I do want to go back in good weather when I’m sure it is even prettier but probably less peaceful! There is a lovely promenade to walk along, which I did with the pushchair while Emma tore about on the beach with daddy.

We were not out too long as it really did start to bucket down but it was a worthwhile little trip. By the time we got home I had some pizza dough risen and ready for family pizza making. It was fun, took no time at all and made the perfect end of the day treat. As a bonus it’s a much healthier way to eat pizza and try to sneak veggies into Emma, so we’re going to make it a more regular thing.

On Wednesday life took on its more usual routine and I decided it was time to get some ‘spring cleaning’ started. My plan/hope/dream is that I will have thoroughly sorted, organised, decluttered and cleaned every room by the end of January… *ahem* Well, I will try at any rate. I started in the bathroom while Emma was at nursery and found that a baby on the move is not all that helpful! So I lined the bath with an old quilt, threw in some toys and in went Matthew. The bath will be cleaned in a nap time at some point!

I have been doing some crochet this week too, of course! I’ll share it with you soon!

{The Ordinary Moments} is a linky I recently stumbled across on the blog Mummy Daddy Me hosted by the lovely Katie who writes there. Do pop over and have a look!

A New Start?

8 January 2016 by Naomi 2 Comments

hello-2016

I guess I should start by wishing you all a belated happy new year…. although one week in to 2016 and I am starting to feel surfeited by all the new year-new start sentiments flying around in every direction. But then perhaps I am just tired and grumpy at the moment!

I have been away for so long from the blog that for a little while there I really wasn’t sure I was actually going to come back to this space. As usual I spent some time going back over the last year or two and reading the memories I have stored up here and once again I have reminded myself why I do keep rambling away. I do not often enough go back to remember what I have posted and while I love crochet, enjoy posting about it and am grateful for the response it gains…. ultimately it is my family posts I love the most. The posts where I am truly rambling about our mini adventures or just our every days, they are the ones that keep me persevering with this.

I struggle a bit though as these days it seems not many people blog like this anymore, just for memory keeping purposes. It is ever increasingly about reviews and sponsored posts, website traffic and social media stats, and creating a revenue. I am torn by this as I understand it and see the potential, we are a low wage one-income family and I do need to think about earning a little to top us up, but I don’t want to lose that personal diary aspect that I love looking back on.

So here I am in 2016 giving myself another year of blogging. I don’t know if I would designate it a new start but I will say that I expect to see some changes around here as I try to balance writing more often my rambling family posts alongside branching out of my comfort zone and working on some new things to grow the blog and earn a little needed side money for my family.

There will of course still be crochet. There is always crochet. <3
