Menu Planning Monday

Today is menu planning day in our house, ready for the weeks shopping to be done tomorrow morning. I tend to start our week on a Tuesday as that is usually shopping day, so here is our next 7 days.

Tuesday 10th – Roasted Root Vegetable Soup & Bread Rolls
Wednesday 11th – Ham & Leek pie
Thursday 12th – Leftovers
Friday 13th – Eating Out
Saturday 14th – Lasagne
Sunday 15th – Beef Stew & Dumplings
Monday 16th – Fishcakes, Sweet Potato Wedges & Peas

Well that should keep us going for another week before all the festive food takes over! Happily, most of this utilises things we already have so should mean we stay on track with this weeks grocery budget of £35.

Setting such small budgets for our groceries each week has really brought home to us just how much everything costs now. I must admit every week I feel a little shocked at how little we seem to have got for our money. Can I do that ‘grumpy old woman’ thing and complain about the rising costs of everything and how even in my memory things used to be much more affordable….. (Yes, I know I’m only 24…)

Well now it is rather late and I really must start getting earlier nights, so I will leave it there tonight (Wait… maybe I’m nearer 50? Ha!).

saturday stitches

Hmmm… Well I missed yesterday didn’t I…

But then its day 7 and 4 out of 7 is pretty good… for me! Lol!

This morning I finally got started on one of Emma’s christmas presents. A pair christmas pyjamas! I’m making a full set for her, a pair of bottoms for me in the same material and a different pair of bottoms for Vince. The plan is to start a new tradition for our little family of new hand sewn pjs to snuggle up in on christmas eve!

After fearing I was never actually going to get going(!) I started and finished Emma’s bottoms this afternoon. I don’t know how much I’ll be able to do tomorrow as we’ll be at church in the morning and Vince works the afternoon, which leaves very few Emma free hours for sewing, but I hope to have Emma’s set finished by Tuesday.

I am loving the way the trousers have turned out though. It’s the first pattern I’ve drawn out myself and this is only the second time I’ve tried it and I’m so proud of myself! Although the top is making me nervous… sleeves are not my friends.

crochet granny stripes

This evening I have settled on the sofa with some Saturday night tv and spent a little time browsing online. Vince has just got home so now we will have a drink and a catchup while I do a little easy crochet. I’m working up a long length of granny stripes in very cheap and cheerful acrylic from my stash, it will eventually become a draught excluder.
