14 Goals for 2014

1 January 2014 by Naomi 2 Comments

This year I am not making new year resolutions as such… I have found that ‘New Year Resolutions’ tend to have a kind of stigma of being unattainable or quickly forgotten about or otherwise broken long before the years end. Perhaps it is just me that feels this way but I think that perhaps this becomes a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts.

So, no ‘resolutions’ for me this year. I do however have 14 goals for the coming year that I would like to achieve. Some are personal, others for my family or financial, and while some are short term to be achieved within weeks others are much longer and will take the year.

Personal

  • Spend less wasted/unproductive time on computers/phones/social media.
  • Spend time reading my Bible daily.
  • Make more time for general reading.
  • Write a blog post at least 2-3 times a week.

Family

  • No more late starts, everyone up no later than 8am. (Hubby works late shifts so as a family we tend to run on late nights & late mornings)
  • Consistently eat breakfast and dinner at the table as a family.
  • Eat more healthily (Particularly fruits & veggies, Emma I’m looking at you!)

Financial

  • Open two bank accounts for Emma, a junior ISA and savings account.
  • Take out life insurance policies for Vince and myself.
  • Start this years annual online savings, one for summer, one for December 2014.
  • Open a long term savings account for a rainy day fund.

Creative

  • Complete the Crochet Mood Blanket 2014 (more on this soon!)
  • Where possible make clothes for Emma and myself instead of buying new.
  • Find a direction and give more time and energy to selling my makes.

I think there are a few other little goals in my mind for the coming year really, but these are the prioritised 14. Blessedly, things such as spending quality time with my husband and daughter are things that I am already able to do daily, for which I am incredibly thankful.

I hope your new year is getting off to a happy and positive start. Do you have any goals or resolutions for 2014? I’d love to hear them 🙂

long days

12 December 2013 by Naomi 2 Comments

I’ve not long been home this evening (its 11pm). I spend most Thursdays up at my brothers looking after my nephew, and Emma of course! It can be tiring just having two under 2s to chase after, but really what makes it a long day is the drive, particularly the 90 minute drive home in the dark, especially tonight through the thick fog.

I am thankful to be able to spend so much time with my nephew though, and even more grateful that Emma and Isaac are able to grow up together despite how far apart we actually live.

But now I am home and I have collapsed on the sofa with Vincent and the worlds best cup of tea. Which if you are interested is a milky Earl Grey with a teaspoon of honey made by my husband (don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!).

It has been a long day but it is worth it to see my two little smilers and for this moment of relaxation with my hubby before going to bed.

Night all!

lights

11 December 2013 by Naomi 1 Comment

This evening after dinner, we all got bundled up and jumped in the car in search of houses decorated in christmas lights.

We’ve never actually done this in the area we live in now, so after a few recommendations we drove out to a village that decorates as a community for charity.

It was brilliant, neither Vince or I had seen anything quite so large scale before. It kind of hit you in the face as you turned into the village, somewhat over the top but just the thing we’d been after. Our little Emma was ‘WOWing!” the whole time 🙂

In hindsight I should have taken my DSLR camera to capture it properly. Instead I only had my phone, which isn’t usually too bad, until I’m fumbling about in the dark with only one hand whilst holding Emma’s hand with the other. Consequently, the pictures I did take were not up to much and most were seriously blurry, but the few here were the best of the bunch. I just wish they did the display some justice!

Do you have any good light displays where you are?
