Winter Woolies: Hats!

17 November 2015 by Naomi 2 Comments

In the last few years I’ve developed quite a ‘thing’ for crocheting hats at this time of year. I think it is because they are so quick to whip up, make me feel cosy and my littles look adorable in them!

So far this year I have made Emma and Matthew one hat each, however my little guy is growing so fast he will need another one by the end of this week!

Emma's WildFlower Hat

These days Emma has a few more ideas about what she wears, she asked for her hat to be purple and pink and not to have a pom pom but a flower instead. I feel that I carried out my brief pretty well and she certainly seems happy with it! But she is not always a willing model so these are phone snaps when she wasn’t expecting it! Ha!

Pink WildFlower Hat

A few technical notes for those who get curious about these things…
Yarn: Stylecraft Special Chunky Shades: Emperor & Raspberry
Hat Pattern: Made up as I went (Basic treble stitch beanie with a front-post/back-post ribbing)
Flower Pattern: The Never Ending Wildflower by Little Monkeys Crochet

Happily, Matthew is a little more laid back about me dressing him up in a wooly hat while still indoors to take photographs!

Matthews Hat

In truth with no requests to fulfill this hat was really a case of using whatever ‘boyish colours’ I had on hand, a bit of a stash buster hat. Actually until he was wearing it I wasn’t totally sure I liked my own colour choices.

A few more technical notes for those who get curious about these things…
Yarn: Stylecraft Special Chunky Shades: Dark Brown, Midnight, Teal & Cream
Hat Pattern: Made up as I went (Basic treble stitch beanie with a crab stitch edging and free hand pompom)

If you would like to see some of the other hats I have made, feel free to check out some of these previous posts:

Messy Play (!!!)

3 November 2015 by Naomi Leave a Comment

Last week was half term where we live. Obviously this means that all schools, nurseries, classes, toddler groups, etc.. take a week off. As parents of course we have no such luck, in my house I’m lucky to get a 5 minute toilet break to myself much less a half term holiday!

Consequently my mummy friends and I were in need of entertainment plans and one of the ideas we had was messy play in our church hall(!)

It was a great idea. Honest.

We learned some lessons, but fun was had and much mess was made. Which was, I guess, the whole point.

So here are a few snaps from last Friday of some very mucky children, as a way of preserving the memories and archiving photos for 18th birthday parties of the future.

We played with paint, cloud dough, ‘gak’ (cornflour/soap/water), custard, and soap foam. The main lesson here is that this is too much at once. We were perhaps overly keen and hadn’t properly considered the level of clean up that would be required.

For future reference, less mess is better mess. 🙂

The Natural Blogger

21 October 2015 by Naomi Leave a Comment

Every now and then I get it into my head that I am going to be a much more regular blogger.

I am definitely going to start posting 3 times a week.

Well, a maybe just twice a week to start with.

Ok, actually I’m just going to post once a week but thats still pretty good, for me.

Then what do you know I have 3 weeks of not posting at all. *sigh*

It is not that I do not enjoy blogging because I do, even when it is just the ramblings of a slightly crazed, sleep deprived mother of 2, but it would be a lie to say it comes ever so naturally.

Now spending time with my lovely little family, crochet and walks in the woods that all comes perfectly naturally and easily. So for now, until I get better at organising my time and not being quite so distracted by everything, I will leave you with some photos of the above that sum up October so far…

A little crochet…

Now I’m off to work on my time management!
