Ok, truthfully this is more of a method than a true pattern!

I simply made a 7 round granny square but I used half trebles instead of the traditional treble stitch. For the time being I am going to assume you don’t need me to write this pattern out for you… unless I’m told otherwise ๐Ÿ˜‰

Fold 3 corners of the square into the centre, creating an open envelope shape. Join the two seams together using double crochet, continuing in one fluid row outlining the open flap as you go. See arrows below as a guide!

beatrix-bag-guide

The strap is simply crocheted onto the back, starting around the post of one of the treble stitches on the rear corner of the bag.

beatrix-bag-strap

R1) ch3, and work 3 trebles.
R2-24) Turn, ch3 and make a treble into each treble from previous round.
R25) Slip stitch across the strap, around the post of a treble on the opposite corner of the bag to attach. Fasten Off.

Alternatively, you can just crochet a simple strap separately and stitch it on to the bag!

I realise this has been a very brief walk through what I did! I hope it is clear enough, I have been struggling to find the time to write this up! If there any problems or anything that is just not explained enough please let me know and I will do my best to help!

wrist warmers & fingerless gloves

20 January 2014 by Naomi 4 Comments

It has been a while since I last shared any of my crochet projects with you and as I am at long last starting to feel like myself again, I thought it was about time! (Thank you for the kind comments on my last post, they were very appreciated.)

I am participating in the Crochet Mood Blanket 2014 and I will get round to writing up a post about my blanket soon but for now I am focusing on much more wearable hooky endeavours.

I actually made myself this pair of wrist warmers way back in October(ish?) but have never quite got around to mentioning them.

I love them very, very much. They are made with scraps of merino yarn that was left over from this blanket. I made the pattern up as I went along using a seed stitch (or moss stitch it might be known else where?) and an improvised shell edging.

wristwarmersThey are super soft, super warm and super colourful. Perfect.

After I made these my dear hubby requested his own, much more manly, pair. So with some chunkier wool yarn (Drops Alaska) in more masculine colours I set to it.

Once again I made it up as I went along, which became interesting when he decided he’d like some ‘fingerless’ fingers, if you catch my drift!ย This actually became even more ‘interesting’ when I ran out of the brown colour after finishing just one glove and had to wait some weeks before ordering more. Trying to reverse engineer my own made up pattern on those silly finger holes was somewhat headache inducing.

However, it was worth the effort as I love how they turned out and happily so does Vince!

I love making wearable crochet items, I am on a bit of a kick at the moment. Yesterday I actually whipped up some new house slippers for myself… which I LOVE. I will swing by hopefully tomorrow to show them off. If I can get some nice photos of them. Taking photos of your own feet in a flattering light is not easy!

Have you hooked up anything wearable lately? I’d love for you to share with us ๐Ÿ™‚
