Happy Homemaker Monday – 18/7/16

17 July 2016 by Naomi 7 Comments

Hello! How was your weekend?

I’ve decided to take part in the happy homemaker Monday link up again. I used to join in regularly but that was almost 2 years ago now! Vince has just finished two weeks off work, my house is a shambles, my housework routine and organisation is lacking, and my blogging is sporadic. So I thought this might just be a great way to kickstart a few things!

Our weekend was a mixed bag, highlights including an excellent birthday tea party for a friends 30th (if you have instagram check out #greatbeckiebakeoff), lowlights being my poor teething, snotty, unhappy baby and his over tired big sister struggling to keep it together.

Well, onwards with HHM!

Happy Homemaker Monday

The weather:::

Today is beautiful! It feels like summer has finally arrived! The sunshine always motivates me to get on with chores too.😊

On my reading pile:::

My reading pile is woefully non-existent right now. I am terrible at finding the time for reading these days even though I do love to read. I’m hoping to make a better point of reading in the summer holidays.

On my tv:::

Gilmore Girls boxset. Thankyou Netflix! It’s been years since I watched this show and I do love it, I’ve even got the Mr hooked! 🙂

On the menu this week:::

We are currently on day 17 of our first Whole 30! It’s been an interesting and sometimes torturous experience so far!

This weeks dinners:

Monday – Prawn Cocktail and salad
Tuesday – Baked Potato, Tuna Salad
Wednesday – Pulled Pork Carnitas
Thursday – Leftovers!
Friday – Chicken Cacciatore
Saturday – Salmon Cakes & Greens

On my to do list:::

Weekly food shop
Hoovering
Organise messy play for toddler group
Organise kids clothes
Never-ending mountain of laundry!!!

What I am sewing, crocheting, or creating:::

I am currently crocheting a smaller version of my Springtime Bolero for a little person and I am crocheting a cardigan for myself but I’m making it up as I go and it is going slowly! I also have a little teacher present in the works.

Looking around the house:::

It is just after lunch, Matthew is napping, Emma is home from nursery and currently playing pirates with daddy before he goes to work shortly. The front room is rough around the edges, the kitchen is clean except for lunch plates and the rest of the house needs dealing with.

From the camera:::

On my prayer list:::

Health, strength and wisdom for various friends and family without broadcasting details.
For our upcoming summer holidays, getting ready for Emma to start school.
That I would spend more time reading the bible each day.

Something that inspires or brings a smile:::

cinema selfie!

We took Emma to the cinema for the first time last week! 🙂

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

A New Start?

8 January 2016 by Naomi 2 Comments

hello-2016

I guess I should start by wishing you all a belated happy new year…. although one week in to 2016 and I am starting to feel surfeited by all the new year-new start sentiments flying around in every direction. But then perhaps I am just tired and grumpy at the moment!

I have been away for so long from the blog that for a little while there I really wasn’t sure I was actually going to come back to this space. As usual I spent some time going back over the last year or two and reading the memories I have stored up here and once again I have reminded myself why I do keep rambling away. I do not often enough go back to remember what I have posted and while I love crochet, enjoy posting about it and am grateful for the response it gains…. ultimately it is my family posts I love the most. The posts where I am truly rambling about our mini adventures or just our every days, they are the ones that keep me persevering with this.

I struggle a bit though as these days it seems not many people blog like this anymore, just for memory keeping purposes. It is ever increasingly about reviews and sponsored posts, website traffic and social media stats, and creating a revenue. I am torn by this as I understand it and see the potential, we are a low wage one-income family and I do need to think about earning a little to top us up, but I don’t want to lose that personal diary aspect that I love looking back on.

So here I am in 2016 giving myself another year of blogging. I don’t know if I would designate it a new start but I will say that I expect to see some changes around here as I try to balance writing more often my rambling family posts alongside branching out of my comfort zone and working on some new things to grow the blog and earn a little needed side money for my family.

There will of course still be crochet. There is always crochet. <3

Jump for July!

4 July 2015 by Naomi Leave a Comment

It’s July. It’s summer. I mean it is actually hot in the UK!

jump for july

I’m not sure how this month crept up on me but I’m glad it is here, I think it is going to be a good one. We are not going away for a holiday owing to our new addition and a fairly tight budget but we have other things lined up to look forward to.

First and foremost being able to get outside and enjoy the sunshine and fresh air is top of my list. Mainly because we can finally use our garden again (the lovely husband has retaken control from the weeds and the cats!). Despite being a small space with no grass, it is serving us wonderfully so far this year. All the photos in this post are from the garden 😉

bees & lavender

In the next week my wonderful nan turns 80! Naturally this means a big family get together which I am so looking forward to. I don’t often get to see my cousins, aunts & uncles as we live away from our family and of course everyone has their own families and busy lives now but it is always a fab day when we all come together. This time it is such a special occasion that even my uncle who lives in Oz has made the trip!

lavender, fence & sky

Vince has some holiday time coming up so we have some little family day trips planned – the beach, the zoo, etc.. We also have our niece turning 2 at the end of that week so it will be lovely to see Vince’s side of the family as well. The following week my sister in law will be staying with us which is always fun – and a great help! 😉

lavender, fuschia & rose

That will most likely see us through till August although I’m sure we will have plenty of other fun things pop up along the way (like the church summer barbecue tomorrow!). I am quite ready for a fun month before I have to start planning and getting ready for the autumn and thinking about December!

I hope you are all jumping for July too! How will you be spending this summer? I’d love to hear!
