An Unexpected Break

16 September 2015 by Naomi 1 Comment

Without planning too, I have taken a month completely away from the blog. Once again though I am back and hopefully this return will be uninterrupted!

It has been a challenging few weeks in many ways (I’ve just realised I even missed my little mans 4 month update – Don’t worry I can catch you up in 3 words… Did. Not. Sleep.) coping with a Jekyll & Hyde baby boy who is wonderful in the daytime and a non-sleeping little terror through the night while also adjusting to our new morning routine as Emma starts nursery school for the first time.

This leaves me at a whole new level of sleep deprivation and I find myself continually marvelling and thanking God for my ability to still function as a rational human being.
Which I do, most of the time. Give or take the odd ‘sudden crying mess in the church creche’ moments. Naturally I save those moments for the most convenient and private of times. Ha.

(All of this being said 3 out of the last 4 nights have been a vast improvement. I mean I got a 4 hour stretch last night!)

So blogging has not been too high on my list of things to do, but now Emma is settled at nursery and I suddenly have some daytime hours that I can actually use. I should probably be sleeping but this more enjoyable.

I have been able to steal minutes in the evening to still do some crochet. This is basically for my sanity. I think once I might have comfort eaten Lindt chocolate instead but now I’m dairy free yarn has fully taken over. I crochet to stay sane.

I am currently working on a children’s cardigan which I am actually pattern testing for the lovely Marta of @mrsdaftspaniel over on Instagram.

I also have a little slightly retro jumper in the works for Matthew which I am designing (making up as I go) – no promises of a pattern we’ll see how it turns out!

All things going to plan, I’ll be back soon to show you more of each.

I hope September has kicked of well for you all!!

Three Months

30 July 2015 by Naomi Leave a Comment

Yesterday, marked Matthew being 3 months old. Somehow I blinked and have found myself a whole quarter of the way through his first year of life. This fact makes me want to cry a little bit.

Here are our developments for this month:

Matthew is, of course, still as cute as ever with a beautiful smile that lights up my world… which naturally I can’t now catch on a camera for the life of me.

Despite having a definite dairy problem things have really settled down, he is gaining weight perfectly and getting more squishy baby rolls by the day. Everyone we run into comments how big he is for his age… I take this as a huge compliment!

Sleep is definitely improving, although we are in the midst of his first full cold which has set us back a little.

He is learning to like tummy time and his head control is still amazing.

It also seems that a dribble switch was turned on this week and the little guy is running like a tap, it could be teething I guess but there is nothing to see?!

Matthew 3m He has also finally mastered sucking his thumb this month which is helping him to settle himself in the evening. As he was not a fan of dummies I’m mostly thrilled about this development. However we have been trying (not ever so successfully) to break Emma of the same habit so when she spots Matthew with his thumb in his mouth she wanders over and helpfully takes it out again. Sigh.

We still have no discernible daytime napping/feeding routine. It is a surprise to me that I am bothered by this. With Emma I did everything ‘on demand’ and it was easy to be super flexible and eventually we found our groove. Now I’m starting to feel a little desperate for a bit of predictability about our day, so I can keep everything else ticking over, but I don’t want to force a schedule?! Yet another difference between having my first and second babies I just didn’t see coming.

There are still plenty of hard moments where I’m not sure if I’ll ever get a handle on being a mum of two (and stare in wonder at mums of more), but there are thankfully a lot more wonderful moments these days. Being snuggled on the sofa with both of my babies on my lap, watching Frozen for the umpteenth time, all being stuffed up with colds and taking ‘selfies’ for the fun of it. Now that is just right. 🙂

Simple Saturday

18 July 2015 by Naomi Leave a Comment

Today is the last day of Vince’s holiday and it is sunshine and blue skies! We are keeping the day simple, just the 4 of us at home doing a few errands/jobs with a little barbecue later for dinner, and a film this evening for us once the kids are in bed.

It has been a lovely few weeks and our activities have ranged from exciting & energetic days out, through to a day spent watching Disney films with huge amounts of popcorn and everything in between.

I think I’m ready for tomorrow, the start of a new week, Vince back to work and a slightly more usual routine for us all. So for now I just thought I’d share a few favourite photos taken recently.
