Lovely Little Family

Five Fact Friday

26 June 2015 by Naomi Leave a Comment

1. Jabs are horrid things. I’m not particularly great with needles and my little Matthew had his 8 week immunisations this morning. I know that he has certainly already forgotten it but they are such heartbreaking cries that stick with me for ages.

2. Sea Shells. Emma has quite a collection of shells from the beach that she likes to play with. We stack them, sort them, paint them and make pictures but I feel there must be more we can do. Does anyone have any good ideas for toddler friendly shell crafts/games?

3. Vegetables. Emma is an incredibly fussy eater and I worry about the absolute lack of fruit and vegetables in her diet. This week has been better though, she has eaten carrot, red pepper and sweet potato. I am finally convincing her to try things again… now if we could just add some greens!

4. Crochet. I am playing around with some bits here and there when I find a few free minutes. I am also working on a new pattern but my goodness it is slow progress. It requires more concentration than my sleep deprived brain can cope with right now. Simple small projects for fun are my go to for a while!

5. Quiet time. I always struggle to set aside time in the mornings for my bible study. I tend to leave it for the evenings by which point I am too tired to really concentrate – especially these days! However as I am now usually up between 5.30-6.30am to feed Matthew I am trying to use that as an alarm call. I have been using the She Reads Truth app this week from the comfort of my bed but next week I am going to try taking the Hello Mornings Challenge to get me up and at it!

Have you ever joined Hello Mornings? Or can you recommend something similar that has helped you? I would love to hear!

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Five Fact Friday

Baby & Me

1. Time for blogging is something I am still not finding as much of as I would like to, the little people in my life demand most of it. I am working on finding more hours in my week but in the mean time do come and find me on various social media! You can find my follow buttons in the side bar on the right (or scroll down to the bottom if you are on a mobile…). I am also now on Bloglovin’ so do please come follow me there too!

2. I am definitely going to be dairy free for the long haul. Yesterday was the day of our food challenge… e.g. I had milk and cheese… the last 24 hours have been tough for my poor little guy… and no picnic for me! I wish I had savoured the moment of what may have been my last cheese for 12 months.

Emma Gardening

3. We are finally able to enjoy our little garden again. Our neighbours have recently moved, taking their 5 cats with them which means our garden is no longer a litter tray for them(!). Vince has spent much time clearing, weeding and generally making it a nice place to be again. Emma has also dived into gardening and planted up our window box with only a little help from daddy.

Garden fun

4. Talking of Emma… I love her talking. She talks often, usually loudly and at speed, which can sometimes be a little wearing but mostly I find myself marvelling at the conversations I can have with my little girl now. The development of language is truly an amazing gift to thank God for. But despite how many times a day I wonder where she learnt a new word or meaning she still has certain toddler-isms that crack me up. My current favourite when she is tired or too excited is her confusion between ‘outside’ and ‘back garden’, I have often been asked this week if we can go “back side”. I’m afraid it’s the child in me that finds this so amusing. Ha!

family at the zoo

5. We went on a family day out to the zoo! I had been feeling anxious about this trip, I was fairly convinced that it was going to be a more stress than fun with a 7 week old baby that still wants to nurse every 2-3 hours and protests loudly if he can’t. Happily we went anyway, Matthew was absolutely fine and we all had a really lovely day together. Thank goodness for stretchy wraps that keep babies content and asleep!

Have a lovely weekend!

Five Fact Friday

1. Time with a baby flies by. My little newborn is not really very little or ‘newborn’ anymore. He is my 6 week old, 11lb 4oz baby boy with all of the yummy rounded squishiness that entails! Also how is the middle of June already?!

2. We suspect that Matthew has a bit of dairy intolerance so (under advice from our HV) I am cutting out all dairy for a 7 day trial. I am on day 2. I already miss cheese. Tea is not the same.
Happily, I think I am already noticing some positive improvements …. but this also means I may have to stay cheese free for ?? months! :-O

6 week collage

3. Emma is the big sister I always knew she would be. She adores Matthew and wants cuddles and kisses at all times. Her latest thing is to sit and ‘read’ a story to him, my heart is never as full as in those moments. I hope she loves him this much always.

4. Family photos where everyone looks in the right direction at the same time with a happy face are impossible. The opportunity to have somebody snap one isn’t all that frequent either, but I will keep trying!

daddy & daughter

5. Life as a parent of two is very different. Some times it is simply hard (i.e. when Vince is at work, it’s bedtime, the baby is crying from wind pain, Emma is having a meltdown because she can’t wear her Princess costume and I have tiredness induced headache and consider joining in with the crying…) and the other times it is simply wonderful and I feel complete and at peace with my lovely little family.

Have a lovely weekend! Wishing you all some beautiful summer weather!
