You might have noticed I haven’t been around much these last few weeks.
Thats mainly because there has been a lot of illness in our house recently, as is the norm at this time of year. My husbands “I only have one cold a year” theory has not stood up to the test, much to his dismay! I had been doing quite well but this week it was my turn 🙁
But also I suddenly realised December is almost upon us and I have so much to do!
December is going to be a big month here this year.
Obviously it’s the month of Christmas, but this is our first christmas as a family in a proper house that I can DECORATE! I’m really excited about this. Can you tell?
More than that, it is Emma’s 1st birthday the week before christmas.
Thats right, my tiny little baby is nearly a whole year old. This makes me want to cry.
It also means she’ll be a toddler not a baby. This makes me want to cry more. LOL
On the other hand…
I adore watching her personality develop and blossom. She’s such a sweet and cheeky little girl and I can’t wait for her to start really talking and walking, I know we’re going to have so much fun together.
So… I have lots of preparation type activities to be getting on with. Would you like an snapshot of what I have in the works?
Birthday Party Bunting – I’m really conscious of how close Emma’s birthday is to christmas and I don’t want it to get lost amongst holiday hype. In a bid to avoid this I want to have very un-christmas party decorations. I cut out the pennants for this bunting ages ago and have bought some Cath Kidston bias tape to sew it all together…. I just haven’t done it yet!

Birthday Cake – I love to bake and I’m a firm believer in doing things from scratch, especially on special occasions (which means no spray frosting in a can thankyou very much) I have finally settled on what I want to do but I’m in the process of some trial runs to see which recipes I prefer.
First Year Photo Book – We are putting together a photobook of Emma’s first year for her birthday. It’s great fun designing it and looking back over the last 12 months but I have sooo many photos, sorting through them is a mammoth task. I have currently managed to cover her first 3 months, I still have a way to go.
Advent Calendar – I am making a calendar for Emma this year which I’m really excited about but I decided to do it all by hand, which means hand embroidering the numbers… my embroidery is sloooowww. Nearly there now though 20 down, 4 to go…. and 24 felt christmas tree decorations to go in the numbered pockets…. and 24 buttons to sew onto the big felt tree to hang said decorations…. with just 2 weeks to go….
I can totally achieve that, right?!
Christmas Tree Decorations – I really want a homespun christmas tree which means handmade decs. I’ve been playing around with a few crochet ideas I quite like and I have plans for a few fabric decs aswell, but as time marches on we’ll have to see what I can really achieve!
Christmas Wreath – There are a few places in our house I would like to hang wreaths and in an ideal world I would really like to make one. I have lots of different ideas of how I might do this but I suspect that this may be a craft too far this year! 🙁
So they are my bigger things to get done. I also have a few little presents to make up that I can’t mention here, not to mention other general Christmas and birthday shopping, wrapping, cooking, baking and organising. All of this and I feel like I’m forgetting something… Oh dear!
Still… I love this time of year! Don’t you?!
