Yesterday Vince had a day off work. Yesterday the sun came out all day. I cannot remember the last time these two things coincided so we were determined to make the most of it.
We decided to go out for the day, somewhere we could walk and see animals with Emma. We are really lucky to have a number of zoos and animal parks within a reasonable driving distance of our home, many of which we’ve visited, on more than one occasion, but we felt like somewhere new.
Then we stumbled on Wild Wood. We love this place, it is sooo peaceful and relaxing. It has many different animals but they are all native to this country, or at least they were at one time, for example, wolves, lynxes, bison(!), red squirrels, etc.. The whole park is built around the woodland and it really feels as though you could just be on a walk and happening upon the animals naturally.
Even better it seems to be a bit overlooked by tourists who want to visit the bigger zoos nearby such as Port Lympne, Howletts & Wingham. Yesterday we only ran into one other family on our way round, it was like having a private tour, perfect. It’s also friendlier to our bank balance than the bigger parks which is always a bonus!
I can’t recommend Wild Wood highly enough and if you are anywhere near the Canterbury/Herne Bay area it is definitely worth a look.
(As far as Emma was concerned, the ducks were her favourite it seemed, I suspect because of the racket they were making! She showed some interest in the chickens that were roaming around the entrance aswell! I guess she is still a little small to be impressed by the more unusual animals. Oh, she was very taken by a badger but it was a teddy badger daddy bought!)
I hope you were able to make the most of the autumn sunshine yesterday, who knows when it will be back!
